Freshly coming off transforming J.K. Rowling’s and George Lucas’s worlds into blocks, Traveller’s Tales drops the wands and lightsabres in favor of picking up some swords as the latest addition to the LEGO franchise is LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean.  The title spans across all four films allowing gamers to relive the adventure.  As in the other LEGO games, it is a riot to see some of the movie’s most memorable scenes in LEGO form.  Seeing the movies is not a requirement to enjoy this game but it may influence it’s players to want to see the movies series after a playthrough.

Most of the characters that appear in the Pirates of the Caribbean films also make an appearance as playable characters in the game .  Traveller’s Tales did an excellent job on getting Johnny Depp’s character Jack Sparrow down perfect.  From the way he looks, to the way he walks and his unforgettable yell all of his attributes scream Johnny Depp.  There a lot of entertaining puzzles which gamers of all ages can solve in the game. A helpful ability that Traveller’s Tales has included is the use of Jack Sparrow’s compass, which helps the player find some if not all puzzle pieces and hidden items that you can collect.

If there is one downside to the LEGO series as a whole it is unfortunately there is no online coopertive play in any of the games in the series with the exception of Star Wars: The Complete Saga. This extremely helpful in this particular title because at times you have to control four characters. It would make for some excellent weekend online parties for gamers. It does have a split screen co-op mode but at times you do not see all of the area on the screen and it can get confusing on where the character is located.  GameGravy.com has a NO SPOILER policy but for the completionists out there, if you complete the game one hundred percent there is a BIG surprise waiting.

Overall LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is a fun and entertaining game and can be enjoyed by casual and hardcore gamers.  Fans of the film series will definitely enjoy it as well as people who havent seen the films.  Hardcore gamers will enjoy the action and puzzles this game has to offer.  For the completionist the game has a lot to uncover and will take even the most skilled gamers at least 20-25 hours to complete.  It would have been a huge addition if the game supported online coopertive play because the split-screen mode, while still fun, is confusing at times.  All in all, I enjoyed this latest installment to the LEGO franchise.  I just hope Traveller’s Tales is listening and includes online co-op as an option in the next LEGO game.
