King Oddball is just like Angry Birds except for you are not slinging birds into other birds.  You are a big creepy looking moon with a crown that uses his tongue to grab rocks off the top left of the screen and attack military tanks, choppers, and men.  At first I felt like it was kind of a rip off but once the game gets going there is a lot that separates King Oddball from the Angry Birds series.

KO1

Each level will begin with the challenge of defeating whatever militia is on the plains and you have three rocks to defeat them with.  Rocks can be earned depending on the toss made and the points earned on that toss.  When making the toss, certain spots of the level will divert the rock to move around differently.  It can bounce the way the player is hoping it will go or they will totally blow the throw and be either aggravated or laugh depending how bad the toss.  The levels can be super simple and then there are levels that will take quite some time to pass being that it gets pretty difficult.

KO2

There are special levels that open up throughout the game.  The player has to defeat the levels in the pathway to the special levels on the map.  Those levels are both easy and extremely difficult.  The easy ones were the grenade and rock missions but the diamond missions have some easy levels but some that are so extreme that giving up is definitely an option with the frustration that will build up.

KO4

The graphics of the game are pretty simple so don’t go looking for life-like visuals or you will be greatly disappointed.  I love the way the graphics are and play but sometimes it feels like the background has a light fuzzy grey screen faded into it kind of like the old school antenna televisions.  The music has me on the fence because it really sounds great to the game.  It gives you that feeling that you are in the process of solving a difficult puzzle.  The problem is after about 2 minutes it sounds like it is on repeat and it does not change throughout the entire game.

The Recommendation

If you are a part of the angry birds craze then you will love this game because it is the exact same concept.  If you do not like the idea of creepy looking moons with crowns causing mayhem and destruction to military personnel then maybe you should stick to the semi cute birds of chaos.  My wife can’t stand games and the fact that she said other than the lead character the game was addicting so that should tell you something.  I say get it if you want a challenging puzzle to figure out but if puzzles are not your thing then just stay away because there is nothing in this for you.
