Turn back the clock with retro mobile games

More and more people are turning to their mobile as their number one gaming device. It’s obvious why; thousands of different gaming apps give you a huge choice of what to play whenever you feel like it, for five minutes or five hours. And, of course, one of the best things about gaming on your phone is that you can take it anywhere. All you need is a connection to the internet, and many of the gaming apps can be played offline too.

Today’s games are so much more sophisticated than those first portable video games that came out in the early 90s. And as well as games with lots of levels and amazing graphics, you can also play real money games now through online casino and bingo apps at sites such as bgo, Gala or 888casino. Many of those sites can also give you that ‘blast from the past’ feeling when you play some of the games on them. Some of the slots that are available to play at bgo.com pay homage to the old style fruit machines that you’d find in the pub in the 70s and 80s; one such example is Gold Rush. It’s a five reel, nine pay line slot that has great features like nudging wilds and double up bonuses so there are plenty of ways to increase your payout potential.

The casino sites each have a selection of games such as slots, Jacks or Better, blackjack, bingo and roulette which can played on the mobile as well as on the website. Not only that, but when you sign up to any of the bigger casino sites, you also get an amount of credit to play the games for free – bgo offers new players making their first deposit a 200% welcome bonus.

It’s not just casino games though; there are plenty of other mobile gaming apps which you can use to re-connect with those early video games that first gave you a taste of the possibilities of video gaming when you were a kid. Here are just a few examples.

When it first came out, playing the Secret of Monkey Island really felt like you were playing a cartoon and at the time that was a real novelty. On the iOS app, you can not only play the original version with the same old graphics, but you can also switch to a modern re-drawn version that is far more contemporary in style. At any point during play, you can switch between the two versions.

Sonic the Hedgehog first came out in 1991 and is the game many players today remember as their first video game experience. For its time it was incredible – both in the quality of the graphics and the speed the game could be played at. Now, the iOS app brings Sonic back to life and he’s better than ever. You can also unlock Tails and Knuckles to play with when you’ve completed certain levels.

If you want a wealth of retro choice in one gaming app, download Atari’s Greatest Hits. It has more than 100 classic Atari arcade games on it. Some are free – like Missile Command – and others can be downloaded as in-app purchases. These include Pong, Centipede and Asteroids.

There are loads of other retro games that you download onto your phone these days, and for a really authentic experience you can buy add-ons like silicone covers that give you the ‘feel’ of playing a Gameboy, for example. You can even buy a little stick on arcade joystick if you don’t want to play with the touch controls. The extra gadgets for gaming vary in quality, and they’re not for everyone, but it’s all part of the retro gaming experience.
