Betrayer coming from FEAR and No One Lives Forever devs

Betrayer is a new title in development that comes from prior Monolith developers that brought us FEAR and No One Lives Forever. They’ve joined together to form a new studio called Blackpowder Games.

Betrayer is a first person action adventure game that takes you to the New World at the turn of the 17th century.

The year is 1604. You sailed from England expecting to join a struggling colony on the coast of Virginia. Instead, you find only ghosts and mysteries. What catastrophe blighted the land and drained it of color and life? Where are the settlers and tribes who lived here? And who is the strange, silent woman in red who aids you from afar?

Clue by clue, you must piece together the story of what befell this doomed settlement and find a way to set things right. You will be hunted by corrupted Conquistadors and ravening shadows as you explore an expansive wilderness in order to trace the brief, tragic history of the colony and search for survivors.

  •  The features of the game boast exploring wilderness teeming with danger and unknowns.
  • Build up an arsenal of early 17th century weaponry including muskets, bows, crossbows, and throwing axes.
  • Collect untold treasures hidden in the wilds by the colonists for reasons you will come to understand in time.

This game does look unique but I’ll reserve my excitement and judgement for when I see a working title. It looks like it could go either way. The timeline sounds very intriguing and unique and the creative treatment also looks interesting. It could be a huge fail where you can’t see a darn thing you’re doing or it could be a beautiful masterpiece. We’ll just have to wait and see.

The game will be available via Steam Early Access on August 14.
