Continuing his quests to eat up all my time this summer with simplistic tabletop games, RCMADIAX strikes again with an addictive little game called Shut The Box.  If you are unfamiliar with RCMADIAX, I reviewed Mike’s other two Nintendo Wii U eShop titles Blok Drop U and Poker Dice Solitaire Future earlier this year, right here at GameGravy.

Shut-the-Box3

Shut the Box focuses the core of it’s gameplay with rolling two dice and then using the sum of the dice to eliminate cards that range from the numbers 1 through 9.  The cards are laid out in 3 rows, with the bottom row being 1 -9, the second being 9-1 and then the top being 1 -9.  You must eliminate the card on top before being able to eliminate the cards underneath.

I found it a sound strategy of eliminating the higher numbers first and saving the lower numbers for the end.  Once you get to only having cards ranging from 1-6, you start only rolling one die and this is where the game hated me the most! The scoring is an added up total of the cards that you have eliminated.  A perfect game is 135.  The closest I got in the few hours that I played Shut The Box was 133, so it is definitely a challenge to achieve perfection.

Shut-the-Box2

Just as in PDSF, the game takes on a simplistic approach to graphics and just focuses on the enjoyable and addicting nature of the tabletop games that RCMADIAX has released.  One minor gripe is that when you have no moves left to make it sometimes takes 4-6 seconds for you game to end, which has you just sitting there waiting for the message that you are all out of moves.  The soundtrack has an enjoyable looping music track which is pretty good, but I enjoyed the song in PDSF a little better.

The Recommendation

If you have played either of RCMADIAX’s previous titles, I don’t really need to sell you here.  Shut the Box is just as addicting as Mike’s aka RCMADIAX’s previous efforts and is also at the same valued budget price of .99 as well.  Keep the summer of tabletop games going strong and add this addicting little game to your collection!
