PLATFORM(S): Nintendo Wii U

GENRE(S): Tabletop Games

RELEASE DATE(S): July 3rd, 2014

Developer RCMADIAX was a pioneer on Nintendo’s eShop bring the first Nintendo Web Framework game to the public.  Blok Drop U was a puzzle game of physics and was made better via a free update where the developer listen to customer feedback and added more value to the original experience.  RCMADIAX has gone a different route with their latest title, Poker Dice Solitaire Future.

Poker-Dice-Solitaire-Future2

Poker Dice Solitaire Future is the first title in the “Tabletop Gallery” series that will be launched exclusively on the Wii U.  These games have no story or platforming, they are just good ol’ fashion tabletop games.  Poker Dice Solitaire Future is in basic terms single-player Yahtzee. You use the touch screen to roll 5 dice then you can choose to hold any of the dice and roll again or play your original roll.  You can roll up to three turns total.  If you do not have a hand to play after the third roll you have to put a red marker in one of the hand categories.  You goal is to achieve the different hands 4 times each and fill your whole board up with green markers.

The hands you will need to make are:

  • Two Pair
  • 3 of a kind
  • Small straight
  • Flush
  • Full House
  • 4 of a kind
  • Large Straight
  • 5 of a kind

The 5 of a kind and Large straight are almost impossible to get, so my recommendation is to try for those first and fill out the rest of the card as you go.  The dice are colored green for even numbers and purple for odd numbers which is how you will achieve a flush.  After you have filled out all your green or red chips you will have your points tallied up on a screen which you can post to the Miiverse to show off your skill to other players.  Leaderboards whether local or online would have been a welcome addition to the game, but isn’t a dealbreaker as it makes you use the Miiverse which is highly underrated.  You will also get bonus points on your total for filling up each hand will all green chips and if your last hand went to a point.

The graphics are what you see is what you get.  It’s a tabletop game so to me as long as the interface is clean and the game works and it is fun, graphically it does what it needs to do.  The soundtrack is pretty awesome though.  Even though it is the same song looped, it is really catchy and I found myself through down some of my own lyrics to it while playing.  Yes I am a music nerd as well.

The Recommendation

At a $2 entry point, I would absolutely recommend this game.  It is a fun tabletop game that you will find yourself unable to put down as you try to achieve that high score just one more time.  My wife and I battle back and forth for a good hour one night just trying to see who could get the best score.   Of course yours truly came out on top.  Also, if you haven’t downloaded RCMADIAX’s first title Blok Drop U, I would recommend going back and picking that up as well! Both are excellent additions to the Wii U library.
