If you have played any worms game before than you basically have played them all. That doesn’t mean they suck, it is just the same game with up to date graphics, new maps, added character bonuses and things of that sort. Worms Battlegrounds doesn’t seem to be much different in my opinion. Yes, getting online to blow the hell out of some random punk is always cool but it is too slow paced of a game. I like turned based games but sometimes with a game like Worms, it can get extremely frustrating because of the weapons being used on you or the lucky shots that hit and/or killed you.
Worms Battlegrounds has a few game modes to play. First, there’s battleground mode which is nothing more than a story mode that of puzzles to solve. The puzzle’s aren’t really challenging, basically all the enemy worms only have small amounts of life but also there are plenty of them to face. Also, in this mode there is a woman telling the player the mission and what all needs to be done. She gets quite annoying with her seeming like a Lara Croft wanna be and her terrible wisecracks.
The game plays like previous versions with additions of new weapons and some of the old favorites. The online game play would be a lot better if more people were online playing. The graphics are definitely pretty and the sound is on cue with all the weapons and explosions. The animation on some of the special weapons are pretty detailed and flow smooth with the motion.
The Recommendation
If you played worms before than you are not in for a huge surprise for too much. Battleground is a good game to play with friends more than alone. The online matches are a great way to play against friends but I was not able to try it being that most people do not have this game yet. I found the narrator to be pretty annoying and while she spoke I kept visualizing Lara Croft which isn’t really that bad but still has nothing to do with the game. If you loved all the previous worms games then go get this. If you kinda like the previous worms games then I would suggest waiting for Battleground to go on sale before purchasing.
