Everyone’s favorite humanoid space shuttle (well maybe not everyone’s) V-99 is back in the third title in EnjoyUp Games “99” series 99Moves.  99Moves is a remastered version of the same titled DsiWare game that was released in 2013.  This version comes with new functionality such as Online leaderboards, 5-player multiplayer, off-screen play and in glorious 1080p with a smooth 60fps for the framerate.

So as it goes, good ole V-99 was floating around in space after the events of 99Seconds.  As he was drifting around with no energy, gravity was the only thing propelling him.  Enter the Shader Zone.  Once V-99 hit the Shader Zone, he was energized with 99 energy pulses which allow him to make, well 99 movements to reach the exit of each area.

The controls in 99Moves are as simple as it gets.  You just use the left analog stick or the D-pad to move V-99 in any of the 4 directions.  The purpose is to navigate the levels with only using 99 movements.  Once you start moving there is no stopping so be ready for action.  All you are able to do is change direction which is where the challenge comes in.  During the twisting and turning levels you will have to avoid obstacles, make quick decisions and try to collect extra points in order to boost your points total to help blast you to the tops of the online leaderboards.

There are a few multiplayer modes available as well.  These modes which include Race, Arcade and Survival allow for 5 players to join in locally.  I had more fun playing these modes locally with friends then the single player high score-a-thon and felt this was where the value and core entertainment of the title was had.

Graphically, not much has changed since 99Seconds and it is still just as simple as the controls.  This is what EnjoyUp is aiming for and they achieve their goal.  The electronic music style is okay, but nothing too memorable .

The Recommendation

EnjoyUp has a nice little series of games with the 99 franchise.  They are quick arcade games that can be played in short sessions to try to better your high scores.  Online leaderboards are a must in this day and age and they accomplish that.  The multiplayer modes are entertaining and will give life to the product after you quickly get through the single player portion.  If you enjoyed any of the previous 99 titles, then this is an easy recommendation and if you are new to the series it is a fun quirky arcade title that will have you coming back for more.
