Nintendo Wii U Direct – MiiVerse

The latest Nintendo Direct video is about the Wii U console and MiiVerse. The video is a whopping 36 minutes long but I’ll skim over it for you to give you the gist of what’s going on. To see the whole video, please visit Nintendo Direct Archive here.

They start off by talking about the projection of new games of 2013, saying its early still and they have a lot of things lined up. Including the addition of Virtual Console, new pricing tiers for VC games even if you purchased them for Wii. Famicom anniversary deal, 30cent NES game deals for 30 days. Oh the list goes on.

Second on the list is MiiVerse. Showing a few examples of how to use it, posting comments during gameplay. If a player is stuck on something for example. Zombi U trying to find an item or access something, you can post a question to MiiVerse and someone can and most likely will help you since the community is so full.

One new feature of MiiVerse is being able to take screenshots and post them within MiiVerse. Nintendo is doing a good job of creating a ecosystem in which users all use the Wii U for standard social communication.

MiiVerse is even accessible during TVii to leave comments during sports games or other TV shows.

Third on the list is the Wii U itself. A lot of gamers have been putting in requests for a variety of updates, myself included. The Wii U is just so darn slow at loading software and it has amazing hardware, this should not be happening. Anyways, Wii U will have two system patches coming out soon and they will address this issue, thank god. The software will load quicker and when going from the from the menu to the homescreen that will load quicker as well now with these two new patches.

  • 1st system patch in spring (Load software faster)
  • 2nd system patch in summer  (Return to Wii U menu faster, adding virtual console software)

The caveat with the launch of the new virtual console software is that only NES and SNES games will be available on launch. Nintendo is having to redevelop all the virtual console games to work with the Wii U so it will take some time to have those all ported to the new system. Nintendo will be adding some new features to the Virtual console, like being able to play on the Wii U Gamepad screen, access to MiiVerse and also adding GameBoy Advance games which hasn’t ever been offered in the Virtual Console store before.

That’s it in a nutshell. Be sure to check back for more details and feel free to watch that whole slow paced video, link at top of article.
