10 year Civ2 game shows bleak, nordic future

Civilization 2 came out a long, long time ago.  Like, 1996.  So why is it coming up here, now?  Because someone has been playing the same match for 10 years, and it’s a post-apocalyptic hellscape.

A ten-year game has divided the world into three warring, 1984ish nations that constantly nuke each other – so many times that the polar ice caps have melted 20 times (!!!) and the world is a swampy mess.  Engineers rebuild roads so tanks can drive to their own deaths.  It’s really quite bleak.  Something should also be said for a 10-year game – the longest I ever played was 27 hours (straight!).

I downloaded the save file and actually played it – it is pretty nightmarish.  You’ll get nuked every few turns.  Word of advice – switch your government.

In the grim darkness of the 4th millennium, there is only war…
