Xtype Plus reminds me a lot of geometry wars with all sorts of death happening and lots and lots of dodging.  You take control of an xtype ship and destroy the enemy ships that attack you piece by piece.  These enemies are not ordinary or easy either, you must destroy most of the ship before you can kill it off by shooting the middle cockpit.  There are 2 game modes to play and depending which one you pick, the enemy has added fire power and difficulty.  There is classic mode and plus mode to choose from.

x1

Classic mode is basically taking control of your ship and shooting away while dodging rockets and bullets.  The bullets are shot out in a circle that expands til it is unseen or hits you, which then you blow up and lose a life. The bullets can not be shot and destroyed like the rockets can. The rockets are straight shooters and will also go til they either hit you, you shoot them or they fly off the screen.

Plus mode takes the classic mode to a whole new extreme.  Not only are you dodging 2 times as many bullets and rockets but now these rockets seek your ship, also there are lasers that you have to dodge.  On top of all the dodging and shooting you will be doing, you will also be timed.  The timer starts at 120 seconds and runs down but as you destroy the enemies you gain time but for each of your deaths the time you lose will be more and more.  For example, your first death will cost you 10 seconds then your 2nd death will cost you 22 seconds and so on.  The plus mode gets pretty extreme and it is definitely no walk in the park.

x2

The game plays pretty simple because the controls are simple.  The joysticks are all you use in classic mode to move and shoot but in plus mode you get an added bonus of the EMP, which will kill off all attacks that surround, by using the right trigger and it definitely comes in handy.  The graphics are nothing special but it does its job for a game of this kind.  The music on the start screen comes off a little dark but then as you play the game it gets to be more of a techno dub beat.  It feels like it works at some parts of the song but other parts I feel like it is a little off with the game.

The Recommendation

I enjoyed the game a lot but at the same time it is such a fast tempo game that it only lasts minutes at a time and lose interest quickly.  I seem to only be able to get to stage 10 and that is in probably about 10 minutes at the most and that is a high guesstimate.  The controls are smooth and work well with this game type.  Xtype plus is fun but like I said only for a few minutes.  I would say get it if you really want a tough challenge but if not then you may want to pass.
