There are quite a few games out today that can make you feel the need to achieve a perfected skill at it and Trials: Fusion is definitely one of them.  The Trials games have been around for awhile and only seem to get progressively better as they release.  If you like to kill time or even have that urge to be “the best” on local or global leader boards, then Trials: Fusion is the game for you.  With an extensive amount of tracks and unlockables to keep you entertained for hours on end, there shouldn’t be any reason that this title wouldn’t be a worthy purchase.  You can either pick Trials: Fusion up on physical disc form for $39.99 (includes season pass) or digitally for $19.99(standalone)/$39.99(deluxe).

First thing I noticed right off, was the amazing upbeat music blaring at the title screen preparing you for some hardcore speed flipping crashing fun.  The training levels are very slow and a bit agitating, but needed for you to later master the control mechanics of the extreme physics in this game.  As you take off in each of the trials you have to be aware whether it is best to feather the gas or not and the pressure sensitive shoulder buttons on the DualShock4 make it more than capable of being done.  I will admit that I always want to smash that gas down at the start all the time and sometimes it ends in my rider flipping backwards from over exerting the wheelie that was forced.  It takes some time getting used to how precise you must be with these controls, especially during flips you have to almost be committed to the direction you chose or you will most likely see those dreaded words “CRASH”.  The visuals of Trials: Fusion are very crisp and clean, which makes your surroundings much more enjoyable to navigate through.  There were a few times where I ended up crashing because I was trying to focus in on some of the little details in some of the levels.

You start out with the lowest quality bike and work your way up to unlocking better and more well rounded vehicles to make maneuvering some of the toughest courses a little easier.  As you try to go for the gold medal in each trial, you gain points by how well you do and it gives you XP that levels up your rider.  New outfits unlock at certain levels, mainly for bragging rights as they do nothing to enhance the skill of the rider.  You also receive money for completing the trials to spend on buying the new outfits or wheels for your bikes that you unlock.  Each new area is unlocked depending on the number of medals you have accumulated throughout the trials you’ve done.  There is also an ATV that is unlocked in the game that is definitely a lot of fun using while speeding through the courses that it was designed for.

One of the coolest features of Trials: Fusion is the Track Central, which is an online hub where user created levels are uploaded for all to try.  You can download as many as you wish and rate them accordingly if desired, also you can check to see what the hottest tracks of all time from user’s ratings.  Creating your own tracks can be pretty precise if you are going for that ridiculous goal of making a near impossible run.  There is a multiplayer option that is only local for up to four players and its quite unfortunate that Ubisoft didn’t add an online racing option, at least with people on your friends lists.  The closest thing you have to online races is if your friends have this game it saves their ghost and you can race against it and try to beat their score and time.

Ubisoft has made Uplay a lot easier to use from in game menus on consoles that it seems more enjoyable to unlock special items.  All you have to do is select the Uplay option from the title menu and it loads up the web browser and automatically logs you in (assuming you already have a Uplay account) and you can browse goals and rewards for the game you are playing.

The Recommendation

Trials: Fusion has proved to be a very addicting and frustrating game all in one, without the constant regret of purchasing it.  There are more than enough things to keep you occupied with playing this title for quite sometime, especially with all the in level challenges and frequently updated Track Central.  If you are a season pass holder, then you will have more than enough to keep you busy as DLC will be supplied until the first quarter of 2015.  I believe Ubisoft has finally perfected the Trials series with this new addition and it definitely shows that it could live on for possibly more future releases.
