There are very few games that take you on a journey in a post apocalyptic world that would no doubt tug heart strings.  With Naughty Dog’s latest game The Last of Us this was no exception.  I was hooked in the first fifteen minutes and even had to put the controller down and gather myself because of what happened in the first fifteen minutes.  This is the game that will keep hooked from start to finish and will leave you wanting to restart the game and desperately wanting more.  Even with The Last of Us being a survival adventure game which is not what Naughty Dog is used to they have really set the bar on what is a terrific game.

the-last-of-us-remastered-release-date In The Last of Us you play as Joel a man who has been surviving since the outbreak started and is given a task to take a teenager girl named Ellie cross country because she could be the savior for humanity.  In the middle of your journey you will encounter groups that are infected by a fungus that grows on the brain and eventually spreads throughout the body which makes the infected act like zombies who will try to infect you as well.  There are also different variations of the infected as well.   You have what is called runners which are recently infected hosts.  Clickers who cant see you because the fungus has grown out of the head and they are unable to see but they are beyond creepy and you will do anything that you can to stay away from them or sneak behind them to take them out.  You will also encounter other people who will do just about anything just to survive.  The story itself sounds simple enough but its the way that it is delivered and how it effects the player or even someone watching the player play the game is what makes this story great.  Every character that has a voice makes you care about that character no matter how long you seem them in the game.  The voice acting is absolutely top notch and the chemistry in Joel and Ellie cant get any better.  And since it is the remastered edition on the PlayStation 4 it comes with another story that circles around Ellie and her friend Riley that takes place before Ellie meets Joel. Loulb-0200 I have said before that the voice acting was great between Joel played by Troy Baker and Ellie played by Ashley Johnson but its not just about how good the chemistry was between them it was about how between all the hardships these characters go through and how well done everything was makes you care even more.  The game play was exactly how it should be with scavenging and making weapons and actually looking everywhere to find pieces you scavenge so that you can modify your weapon, make bombs, create health packs and even shivs so that you can sneak behind your enemies and take them out.  Also some of the same pieces you scavenge can go for two or more things and makes you think weather or not you want to make Molotov cocktail or health pack.  The game also uses a natural cover system that allows you to get closer to cover so you can sneak around or avoid getting shot. Also tying into the game play is the sounds of the game.  Every punch you throw and land sounds exactly like a punch and makes you want to keep punching and going into brawls more so that you can save your ammo.  At certain part of the game you take over Ellie’s character and you play as her and you will need to change up your play style a bit because she cant go into brawls like Joel can.  This game had already pushed its limits on what the PlayStation 3 could handle and it excells that even further in the PlayStation 4 version of the game making it easily the best looking game on the PlayStation 4 so far with true 1080p graphics and 60 frames per second.  Also the soundtrack by Gustavo Santaolalla is beyond excellent and ties into the game very well.  There are many tense moments in the game where you have to be stealth and trying to not make a sound to get through a room full of clickers and then also an infected that has been infected for a very long time is a bloater who is tough to take down but sounds extremely creepy. 14480569167_8fde03d55e_h-600x400 This game also has a multiplayer mode that you will probably spend another 14 hours playing and is actually pretty good for what it is. The game modes are a supply raid which is like team death match, survivor which is team death match with no re-spawns and interrogation which has a lock box in the map and you have to down and interrogate an enemy to know of the box’s location.  It also connects with your Facebook and everyone on your friends list is your group and you have to look out for them by playing well in the game in order for them to survive.

The Recommendation

To me I believe with everything you go through this game and how well it is executed from Naughty Dog that this game deserves a 10.  Naughty Dog took a not really  all that original concept gave it everything they had executed it perfectly.  This game is a masterpiece and is a game that people will be talking about for a very long time.  I recommend The Last of Us Remastered to anyone who plays video games. Even if you only play once in a while and especially for those who just play games for their story, this is a title to check out.  It is one of the best games on the PlayStation 3 and as of right now it is the best game on the PlayStation 4 in my humble opinion.  The Last of Us Remastered gives you a great reason to show off to your friends on how great a game looks on Playstation 4.  Naughty Dog has truly created something special and I am on board for a sequel if they decide to do one.  Do yourself a favor and get this game, you will not be disappointed.
