That Trivia Game

I will start by saying that this is a terrible name for a trivia game.  Anything probably could have worked better than That Trivia Game.  I love trivia games and had to jump on top of reviewing this.  TTG has over a 1,000 questions to ask for you and/or your opponents to answer.  There are a choice of six characters to choose from, three male and  three female characters.  The characters aren’t anything crazy or special, it consists of sad looking pirates, nerds, and punk rockers.  After you have chosen your character to play as, you can choose from four different outfits for each character.   Next, you will choose a name for your player which doesn’t save so you have to re-type it every time you play.  After that is all said and done, the game will choose your opponent and begin the game.

You will be told to choose a category out of four choices to answer questions about.  Once you have made a decision the game will begin.  The game consists of four rounds that all play different from each other.  The first round called the basic round will ask you questions and each being worth 250 points.  The second round, the countdown round, the answers will disappear as  time runs down while also making the points worth less.  The quick draw round is the third round and it plays out with the faster you answer the more points you can earn.  The points will start at 400 and wind down til it reaches zero or until all players have made a decision.  The fourth and final round is called the final flash round and it does just that.  The answers will flash one at a time after the question has been asked and the first person to answer it will gain 1000 points but if you do answer it wrong it subtracts 1500 points from your score.  If you answer wrong, you can continue to answer the question til it is answered correctly but be careful because you can lose 1500 points each wrong answer on the same question.

A cool little tidbit of the game is that the controller lights up accordingly.  While waiting for the question to be read or making your decision the light will hold at blue, if you answer correctly it will flash green and it will flash red if you are incorrect.  The game moves pretty slowly but that is all the middle space between rounds and the horrible attempts at trying to be funny by the game show host.  The voice over by the host is pretty bad, it is like he is trying to be charismatic but falls short and strikes me as more of a creepy ventriloquist dummy.  Other than the comments about the host being creepy, the graphics are pretty good and the music goes great, it sounds just like a game show song should sound like.

The Recommendation

That Trivia Game is a great time killer if you have like 15-20 minutes to waste.  The questions are a pretty good range of good and easy to pretty difficult at times.  I have only had one question repeat itself in the 30 plus times I have played.  The comments by the host can be funny to a small degree but most of the time come across annoying and had me kind of wanting to say shut your mouth and get to the next question.  As far as trivia games go, this is excellent at the trivia part and the challenge of answering the questions is fun as well but all the in between are brutal and really slow moving.  Also, online multiplayer is not available so I would hope they can make a patch for that, I believe that could make an impact for the better.  If you like trivia and like a good brain workout then this game is for you but if you are looking for the all around package then this is not what you want.
