GAME NAME: I am in the Movie

DEVELOPER(S): Moragami

PUBLISHER(S): CIRCLE Ent.

PLATFORM(S): Nintendo DsiWare

GENRE(S): Music, Fitness, Lifestyle

RELEASE DATE(S): March 27th, 2014

I am in the Movie, is not so much a game, but a utility application that allows the user to be the director so to speak.  You record, edit and add effects to videos all from your Nintendo Dsi or 3DS.  The only problem is that due to hardware limitations, you can only record in 5 or 10 second intervals.  If you own a tablet or smartphone, tout or vine will do the same thing and much better.  Also the camera is pretty terrible, making an added effects look even worse the movie you recorded in the first place.

The app features absolutely no tutorial and it is overly difficult to do anything.  You can record up to 5 different movies, each with a different base effect and then more options that you can add later.  You can also record sound effects and take pictures or stills and then add them to your movie later.  The stills and pics are viewable on your 3DS but your videos are not.  They are autosaved to your SD card and then you can view them on a computer at a later time.  It seems like a weird decision to me to have a video editing app but then you can piece together a video from the system.

The Recommendation

I am in the Movie is a functional piece of software, but it is by no means any good.  You have better options with most any smartphones available on the market today.  It seems the developer would have been better suited to have made this an iOs or android app rather then a DsiWare App.  I also feel that Nintendo needs to upgrade their camera in order to really bring any kind of photo or video app to the system that is worth anything.  I can’t recommend this unless you want to try to make 5 second clips that are editable on your Dsi or 3DS.  If thats what you want and you have time for trial and error, then jump in.
