RELEASE DATE(S): March 27th, 2014

I am an Air Traffic Controller Airport Hero Hawaii is a simulation game from the Sonic Powered Co. in which you basically take on the duties of an air traffic controller.  Yes folks and it is about as fun as I just made it sound.  You will get to do all the duties of a job but not get paid for it. Oh yeah, and work isn’t fun.

AirTraffic1

I am an Air Traffic Controller Airport Hero Hawaii is as long as a title as which I felt like I was waiting for something to happen during the tutorials.  The tutorials are straight forward but super boring.  There is no sort of action to the game.  You basically just hit commands at the opportune time and make sure that planes do not crash.  You earn points by successfully pushing runway or gate buttons at the correct time.  You can switch between camera modes to get great views of the n64 looking version of Hawaii.

The game has 12 different challenge levels ranging from Easy to hard.  After completing these levels,  4 more extended levels are unlocked to continue the torture.  All of them involve pushing buttons for arriving or departing planes.  All this would be completely miserable if they had included a fast forward button.  I have better things to do then watch the plane circle the damn island for 15 minutes and then come in for a landing.

AirTraffic2

Graphically the game looks great in 1997 terms with lush pixelated 3D boxes and textures fr environments.  The soundtrack plays the same thing over and over while you await the plane to land or take-off which could take longer then 15 minutes.  Get ready for a gaming marathon people.

The Recommendation

I can not with a straight face recommend this game to anyone.  I wouldn’t even recommend this title to people wishing to become Air Traffic Controllers.  I mean come on now, we need someone to do the job and the word hero in the title isn’t a joke either.  You would have to be a modern day hero to want to play this game for more then 2 or 3 sittings.  If you want to do anything involving planes I recommend Pilotwings Resort or AeroPorter as they are both better choices.
