Free To Play Friday – Planetarium

Planetarium is less a game and more a “planet generator,” if you would believe that.

But there’s a game buried in it.  And it’s a clever one.

While you can type in words (or even just random letters or whatever you want), there’s a mystery story underneath it.  Type in “earth” to start it, and go from there.

Accompanied by moody, contemplative music, Planetarium’s lo-fi aesthetic goes very well with the light, tight text and simple interface.  Plus, if you move the slider around on the bottom, you can usually find something interesting.  Such as the pink blobs on the beaches, or yellow legless crustaceans that inhabit the oceans.

A couple fun ones to type in –

  • Pluto
  • Ass (or any naughty word, basically)
  • Boring

There are apparently 150 unique ones to find.  Plus, the mystery theme of discovering what happened to humanity is a clever little diversion.

Planetarium can be downloaded here, and at 5MB it’s a quick one.
