Free To Play Friday – Pequod

Call me Ishmael.  Some years ago – never mind how long precisely – having little or no money in my purse…

So begins one of the greatest literary works ever produced by an American, Herman Melville’s Moby Dick.  It is ingrained in our collective culture, from Sculley’s dog Queequeg getting eaten in The X-Files, the entirety of The Wraith of Khan, and various episodes of Futurama.

And here we have an excellent game adaptation, from the whale’s perspective.  You are Mobias, attacking ships while remaining alive in an RPG-lite version that is reminiscent of the NES version of Jaws (albeit with a role reversal).  Collect hearts to stay alive, defeat bosses, and eventually take on Ahab himself.

The game is downloadable right here for free, although you may pay what you wish for it.  The creator, Nick Barr, did a good job – you may want to float him a couple bucks.  But since it is free, here it is on FTPF.
