Super Mario Bros. Inducted into Video Game Hall Of Fame

The World Video Game Hall of Fame which is in the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York will be inducting the original game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Mario Bros. along with six other titles as part of the inaugural class.

The World Video Game Hall of Fame has a certain list of criteria that video games must first meet in order to be considered for induction.

That criteria is:

  • Icon status
  • Longevity
  • Geographical reach
  • Influence

Super Mario Bros. launched in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System and is one of the most well known, not to mention best selling video game titles of all time selling over 40 million units worldwide. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the long running franchise that spawned the immediately recognizable plumbing duo, Mario and Luigi and their nemesis Bowser. To celebrate, later this year Nintendo is releasing Mario Maker on the Wii U, which will allow fans to create their own Mario themed levels with everything from classic 8-bit to NSMBU themed content.
