P.T. (Playable Teaser) has got to be one of the cleverest marketing gimmicks ever.
As many of you know, hidden at the end of a short, and excruciatingly difficult, “demo” is the announcement for a new Silent Hills game—from the creator of Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima, and film director Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim) and surprise also starring Walking Dead star Norman Reedus aka Darryl.
It’s a pretty awesome way to introduce a new game, and especially a game that has deep roots in horror survival but the P.T. “demo” itself is actually quite atrocious. It left people frustated behind belief and bewildered. Although some people absolutely loved it, there was a mixture of love and hate, myself walking the line and leaning on the screw this side.
Kojima initially believed it would take at least a week for anyone to solve the final puzzle and reveal the secret at the end, but it was cracked in a few hours on YouTube. Personally I could not complete the damn final loop, I tried all the tricks and a variety of combinations, its possible that I had to restart and do it again for the random factor to kick in since our other Editor Eddie and I played it for 6 hours.
Below is our first impressions of the Silent Hills P.T., since I clearly couldn’t play it alone I brought our Editor Eddie along for the ride. Also, feel free to skip around but the real treat starts at 16:54.
For those who completed the P.T you’ll see a shot of the Silent Hills logo and who created it as well as a sneak peek at Norman Reedus. We hope you enjoy.
