War Thunder is a combat/flight simulator that has some major ups and downs.  There are two types of game modes with either single player missions or online multiplayer.  The player can choose to battle in airplanes or in tanks.  The missions are pretty tough sometimes and can take awhile to get going but once the action begins than it is awesome and challenging.  The tank battles are difficult to control and the aiming is not very fun either.  On the other hand, the flight simulation is really slow to get going but once you reach the enemy the battles get pretty awesome and intense.  The fighter planes are all over the place and you can be shot down from any angle.  The negative about the mission mode is the fact that there isn’t really a story to it.  It will show video of planes or tanks heading to their destination with music playing in the background.

The online play mode is way more awesome than anyone can probably imagine.  Again. the tank battles are better than mission mode but are still very difficult to handle and the aiming is still a tough feat as well.  The airborne battles are even more amazing online than in the mission modes.  The battles take a minute to get to but once there it is completely awesome and full of action.  The online modes can have up to 32 people at once for battle.  The online battles are constantly full of action and evading being shot down or being the one shooting down one of the many of your opponents.

My biggest complaint about about the flight simulation is that I understand they are trying to make it realistic, which they did a great job, but i would prefer there to be more ammo than they have allowed.  With the levels as big as they are and how detailed the environment is, the online battles are as smooth as can be.  The battles of War Thunder are pretty realistic too because you can’t just shoot at your enemy target.  You have to lead your enemy target with the bullets which may sound difficult but its not that bad because you are given a target to aim at that shows where to aim for to lead the attack.

War Thunder has some upgrades to your fighter planes and tanks.  The upgrades are a little confusing at first with all the research that you have to do before upgrading and all of the points you have to earn to be able to unlock new weapons or upgrades.  Some weapons need to be researched before being able to unlock them or add them to your repertoire.  Also, the same will go for new fighter planes or the armored tanks as well.  Certain amount of points will unlock them and then in order to switch the vehicle out, your pilots must be trained for the new vehicle which will then put you into a tutorial for that vehicles abilities.

There are multiple views available when piloting your craft of choice.  You can choose from a third person view, cockpit view, gunner view (if the aircraft has a gunner) and the virtual cockpit view (if the aircraft does not have a cockpit model the virtual cockpit will be used).  The graphics of War Thunder are so detailed that you really will feel like you are in an actual flight simulator.  The water looks beautiful from above and looks like it should if you were really in a plane.  The ground, trees, grass and the skies look as if you were just walking around outside, they look fantastic and can be seen that there was a lot put into the detail of this game.  The music in the game was composed extremely well, it has you feeling like the videos you watch of the past wars on television.

The Recommendation

There are the two options to choose from and everyone has their preferences.  I believe the flight battles are better than the tank battles being that its easier to control and grasp and not to mention a lot more fun.  The beautiful scenery and music makes you feel like you are in the wars of our countries past.  The online battles are definitely where the action is at as well.  I don’t care for the solo missions as much as the online play but it is still worth a play through.  If you are a person into war games then you will love War Thunder for sure.  If you are into the idea of a real flight simulator and awesome air battles then this is for you.  I can’t say there is much I don’t like about this game other than little things that aren’t overly worth attacking other than the difficult tank handling.  I think this game is worth a buy and I would recommend checking it out or atleast download the demo and see for yourself.
