Unmechanical at it’s core is a puzzle game to where you have to figure out how to move on from a room or a particular area. It feels pretty similar to a game that came out a couple years ago for the Playstation systems from Fun Bits Entertainment and SCEA called Escape Plan.  You make use of rocks, balls of light and switches to move on to the next area.  Like any other puzzle game it starts off slow so that you will get the hang of it and will eventually get harder making you have to elaborate on what your next move might be.  One of the rooms I was in there was so much going on because there was exploisions and the screen was shaking which added to that tense moment of trying to get out the room as quickly as you can.

You control a droid that floats around on the screen and has the ability to pick up objects with what it seems like a gravity pull that clings to you and when you let go of the button on the controller it will drop it.  The controls for the game are pretty straight forward the face buttons are the buttons you use to pick up objects and drop them and you just move around with the left stick.  That is pretty much all you need for a game like this since there is a bare minimum story and no dialogue of any sort.  What makes the gameplay feel so good though is it’s simplicity as anyone can pick up the title and instantly be a master at its controls.

The graphical style is pretty interesting because the artist makes it feel like your in a underground machine graveyard while you’re trying to find a way to escape it. The visuals is also what progresses the little story that there is here as their is no voice acting or text to tell the tale.  The music also adds a little mechanical undertone to the game which complements it very well.

The Recommendation

If you are a avid puzzle gamer and you are looking to get your next fix I would recommend picking this up.  Even if you are not a really good at puzzle games and you are looking something for you to pass the time I would still recommend this to you as the simple controls make it easy for beginners to the genre.  The art style and that minimalistic approach of Unmechanical will help draw gamers, new or seasoned veterans, in.
