A 400-year-old clue in the coffin of Sir Francis Drake sets a modern day treasure hunter on a highly intense exploration for the lost treasure of El Dorado. The search quickly turns deadly as Nathan Drake begins to uncover the mysteries of the island. In this male version of Tomb Raider or even modern day Indiana Jones players will come across hundreds of enemies, as Nathan and his friends Elena Fisher and Victor Sullivan help each other through this mysterious island where they have no idea what might be around the next corner.
This third person action adventure will have gamers hooked for hours because of its gorgeous graphics and theatrical appeal. Like a summer movie it manages to pull gamers in and make players actually care about their characters. Anyone can tell the developers tried their best to make it look, act and feel as if it was a movie. It’s very unfortunate that there is no cooperative play or even multiplayer. It would definitely come in handy since players are partnered up with two people most of the time. Gamers will never lose their way or even get side tracked in the game since its very linear. The game is split into 22 different chapters taking players about 15 minutes to complete each one. Experienced gamers will beat the game in about 8-10 hours. There are also a decent amount of puzzles you have to solve as well and players will have to refer to Nathan’s journal in order to solve them. There is also about 60 items for you to find and collect.
Besides platforming, Nathan will find himself taking control of a turret on a jeep, shooting down enemies with a Gatling gun and behind the handlebars of a jeep. Platforming in the game is very simple and easy since there is only one way to go and each time a player takes a leap of faith jump to try and catch a ledge you hope that Nathan can make it and hold on. One of the best things about this game is the voice acting. The voice acting is top notch and the way the characters banter back and forth with each other will never make a dull moment while playing. There was one thing about this game that players will find a little odd or out of place. At some point in the story you get to a point where you see zombie like enemies, which will make players feel like they don’t belong with the setting due to the story line and the fact that you are in a tropical environment. The enemies in general throughout the game aren’t really that smart but they make up for that in sheer numbers and provide quite the challenge.
If players are looking for a game that looks amazing on the PlayStation 3 then you have found it with this title. Uncharted Drake’s Fortune is easily one of the best looking games on the system to date. Overall this platform action adventure game is a great way to start the series. Unfortunately there is no multiplayer or cooperative play hopefully naughty dog will bring this into its sequel but don’t let all this discourage you from playing this title. It’s awesome story and its amazing voice acting will keep you on your toes until you finish.
