The Lego Movie Videogame

Everything is awesome, if you are into any of  the Lego games ever made!  Lego games have all been basically the same with all the red brick, gold brick, and stud collecting while also unlocking multitudes of characters.  The Lego Movie Videogame has put a little change to the game but that is also because if you have seen the movie, which by the way was great, then you will notice how much of the game is just like the movie.  There is a new addition to the game, like the movie, being a master builder can make the difference of needing instructions or just being able to build random things without the manual.  When you begin the game, Emmett is the main character but like the movie, he is just a regular Lego character and needs instructions to build constructs throughout the game.  So, while playing, you will need to find instructions throughout the levels and build the item with a construction builder.  Now, if you are a master builder character like Vitruvius or WyldStyle, then you don’t need instructions and you can stand in certain areas and build from items that are part of the landscape.

The game is basically the movie but it will take a little longer than the actual movie unless you just run through the game without doing anything but the bare minimum.  The cut scenes are taken straight from the film itself.  There are good and bad about this but to a child it is pretty unnoticeable, even adults would have to listen pretty carefully.  The cut scenes again are from the movie where the actual actors voices are used but in the game the voice overs are by different voice actors.  Like I said, you would have to listen really close to notice the difference of actors, it took me a bit but I could tell.  The graphics from the cut scenes are the same as the movie but in my opinion, I feel they could have made the graphics a little cleaner and brighter especially with the console being next gen.  The actual gameplay graphics seem a lot better than the cut scenes, so I am not sure if that is good or bad to most but to me I like good clean gameplay but I would like to see the cut scenes to be just as pretty.

The gameplay is pretty good being that I haven’t dealt with any choppy or glitchiness especially with all that goes on in some levels.  The story is exact to the movie so if you have not seen the movie, than I would suggest seeing the movie then finish the game.  The characters that are unlocked throughout the game are awesome and deceiving at the same time.  I was very disappointed when I saw the name Michaelangelo and if you saw the movie, I thought it was gonna be the ninja turtle which would have been the first for a Lego videogame frachise but to my sadness it was just the renaissance painter.  Happier note, you can be batman, superman, wonder woman, green lantern, a vampire, a witch, a green ninja and even Gandalf from Lord of the Rings.  The unlockables are just like most of the Lego games which you will unlock the stud multipliers, the fast builds and the other usuals.

Playing the game to unlock everything is the same as well as previous Lego games.  Once you have beaten each level you will unlock the free play mode which is how you will replay the levels to unlock everything that remains.  A cool thing in the game I liked a lot was that it wasn’t open world to get to the next level.  It was like warping from one land to another that gave you access to the levels available to that dimension.  In these lands, they were like little mini levels themselves that had missions to collect instruction manuals and help other Lego citizens and find red bricks.

 

The Recommendation

I love Lego games, always have and always will and with that being said, this game is no different.  I love playing as characters from other Lego brands such as Batman and Superman but you will use Batman a lot being that he is a main character anyway.  The unlockables are the same so it feels like you are playing all the previous games ever made before.  There are a lot of similarities of this game to the past ones but there are a few new additions in this that do keep it fresh.  If you like Lego games than you will like The Lego Movie Videogame just like the rest.  It is probably one of the best movie videogames ever made, most are pretty bad.
