I hadn’t had a chance to play Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark on either the PlayStation3 or the Vita, so I was excited at a chance to play the Ultimate edition on the PlayStation 4.  The Ultimate edition comes with the two expansion packs “The Last Clones” and “The Teleporter Chambers”  which increase the amount of levels from 80 to 120.  So how does Curves transition from the PS3 and the Vita to the PS4 go?

Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark is all about 2D platforming and puzzle elements with a unique twist of espionage added to it.  You will need to creep in the shadows like in Splinter Cell or Metal Gear.  If you happen to get caught most often you will end up with a bloody dead corpse.  Good thing you get cloned back right away so you can continue your trek through the science facility.

The controls and gameplay are quite simple.  You can jump and grab on to ledges to help get you to the higher portion of levels.  You can also use teleporters and have the ability to hack terminals and push blocks to solve other puzzles.  I enjoy how early on in the game, the creators were stealthy about putting help clues in the background.  It’s subtle and clever.

Most levels can be completed within 30 seconds to a minute.  There is plenty of replay value in this title as there are unlockables, trophies and online leaderboards to keep you trying to solve each puzzle and level quicker to see your name atop the rankings.  Some of the unlockable costumes will grant you bonuses, so if you are aiming for the top spot you should definitely try to find out what the best costume to use.  There is also a level editor which allows you to create your own levels.  Unfortunately,  there is no community share option, so there isn’t anyway to download other PSN gamers levels.

Graphically, not much has changed since the PS3 version of the game and even in high definition isn’t something that is going to blow you out of the water.  I love indie games but I’m waiting to see more such as Outlast that take advantage of the systems hardware.  I was digging the soundtrack as it had a techno-ish sound and fit the game and setting perfectly.

Stealth, Inc.  is a good puzzle game because it is playable in short spurts.  To me that is the most important aspect of a puzzle game.  The level design is great because it is challenging but not to the point where you will want to throw your dualshock 4 through the TV.  I’d recommend purchasing this title if you like the genre and haven’t played the title yet on the PS3 or Vita being that the game doesn’t cross-play to the PS4 version.
