Starcraft 2 was one of the most anticipated and long awaited games of all time. Blizzard, the team that has brought us games like World of Warcraft  and Diablo, finally brings us the sequal everyone has been waiting on for over 10 years. Starcraft is an RTS (real time strategy) to the absolute core. It has a rock, paper, scissors concept which works really well. There are three different races that all have their own play style. You have the Zerg, who are a fast moving rush race. The well balanced Terran, and the slow but powerful protoss. So depending on your style you can choose many different tactics. As the story goes, it’s all about power, money, and saving the humans (Terrans) from getting destroyed. The core game play is that you have to collect minerals and vespene gas. With those you can build your army. You can upgrade your units to have better armor and better weapons. You can build everything from planes, tanks, a mother ship and many other things. The game is one of the most balanced games I have ever played. There is always a way to kill something but the key to the game is speed. If you can build units faster than the other guy, you will win. Blizzard always updates the game to make sure no one can find loop holes and cheat.

Starcraft 2 on single player mode  is actually very good. Now unlike the original Starcraft you only get one campaign which is the Terran. The biggest change to starcraft 2 is the RPG elements to the game. When going between missions you will get to choose upgrades to different units and their weapons, armor, etc. What I also really enjoyed was the way everything was laid out. It’s like a comic book that you can click on and move, and characters can talk and interact with one another. Very cool. The gameplay is simple but extremely complex. Anyone can pick up and play the game but those that know the ins and outs of the games will be good at it. You mine minerals and gas to build your army. Jim Rayner, who was the hero from the first game, is trying to save the love of his life from the Zerg. Kerrigan, once a human but now is the queen of the Zerg, controls all of them. The love Jim has for her will not stop him from getting her back and will not let anything stand in his way.

The multi-player mode is the biggest thing about the game with the new Battle Net. You can play custom maps that anyone can make or play competitively with everyone across the world. What Blizzard has done very well is the is the ranking system that determines who you play and who you play with so you don’t have to face someone that has epic skills.

The graphics in the game haven’t changed too much of course. It’s in third person now  so you can zoom in and out, everything is in HD but it looks the same as the other games. I believe they did this so everyone can play their game, because their last game you could play on your moms old computer. Probably the only thing about the game that was disappointing were the graphics. There are multiple games that have better graphics like War Hammer 40k  which blows SC2 out of the water. The dialogue in the game was awesome from classic catch phrases when you click on the units, and great music through the whole whole game.

In closing, Starcraft 2 is everything you could have asked for in a sequal for a new RTS except the graphics. Great and familiar game play. Simple, yet complex. What would have been nice from Blizzard also would be to not come out with three titles but beggars cant be choosers
