10 tons has done it again, first with King Oddball, now with another quality game called Sparkle 2.  Sparkle 2 is a puzzle game of matching orbs of the same color to defeat the levels of oncoming orbs.  Throughout the game you will try to defeat these levels to reach five enchanted keys that will unlock something valuable.  The game begins with choosing a difficulty, so I chose normal but you can also choose from normal, hard and nightmare difficulties.  The game begins with the story about the enchanted keys, searching for them on your journey.  I don’t believe the story of this game really matters for the type of game it is.  Sparkle 2 reminds me a lot of those bubble pop games that you match three balls or more together to pop them.  The same concept for this game except that there is something pushing the orbs in certain paths to reach a hole in the ground.  The players goal is to eliminate each orb with three or more matching.  You can earn enchantment enhancements to help you on your journey.  Even though I played on normal difficulty, it can get ridiculous and frustrating, so these enhancements will help you on your quest.

The enhancements available in the game are definitely helpful in the later levels being that it gets crazier.  The power ups  include things like wild orbs which make different color orbs blend and be eliminated, the frost ray which shoots through the trail of orbs destroying all in its path and a lot more.  The levels, which are considered days, will make a pathway to all your destinations.  You can choose to go left or right at forks in the road, depending if you wanna beat the game real quick or actually collect each key.  I think there may be a little too many days to get to the end, I finished the game at like 93 days, in which i finished in about 10 hours.  The quest mode is definitely on challenge on normal, so once I finished the game I decided to give the nightmare difficulty a shot.  Let’s just say that nightmare difficulty is just that, a nightmare.

There are two more game modes included but are unlocked as you play through your quest.  There is a survival mode and a challenge mode.  The survival mode is basically the same as any survival mode, it is a continuous outpouring of orbs trying to make there way to the end before you can reach your goal.  There are 32 levels in this mode but in order to play them all you have to have a certain number of stars to unlock them.  The goal is to achieve five stars by eliminating more orbs.  It will continue to keep pushing more orbs your way even after you achieve the five star status but it gets faster and faster while being less accommodating with the orbs needed.  Challenge mode has 24 levels with three different level settings for each one.  Ranging from easy difficulty to nightmare.  To complete the challenge mode, the player would have to play all 24 levels three times each.

Sparkle 2 has some fantastic scenery in the backgrounds of each level.  Also throughout the game there is nothing but smooth transitions of power ups, to orbs disappearing, the continuous out pour of orbs and everything.  Not a single issue with continuity or glitching or anything of those sorts.  The music and effects go amazing with the game.  The music makes you feel like you are on magical quest and when the orbs get closer to the hole, the music speeds up just a little and makes it seem like it is extremely urgent to stop the orbs or you will lose.

The Recommendation

If you are into fast paced puzzlers than you are in luck.  This game has it all for all you mind freaks from challenges, survival and the single player mode.  I thought it was gonna be easy when I first started playing it but then it gets a lot more challenging later on.  The power ups will help later in the game which kept it playable and not extremely frustrating.  Nightmare mode on the other hand is so fast paced that you would have to be as fast as the Flash to keep up, it is a challenge but aren’t puzzles supposed to be?  The down side of the game is that it is repetitive and that the aiming isn’t that great.  I felt there were way too many days (levels) in the single player mode, it just felt kind of like it was taking a lifetime to finish.  If you are not into puzzles than steer clear but if you like giving your brain along with your hand eye coordination a workout then get Sparkle 2 and enjoy the craziness.
