Ever since the release of the original GameBoy and the game Tetris, handheld systems have become synonymous with having great puzzle games on them.  A good puzzle game has to have the ability to pick up and play in short bursts, but also be addicting enough to keep you wanting to come back from more.  There are countless games that do this very well across Nintendo handheld platforms and the mobile phone platform.

Quell Reflect is a puzzle game that is similar to Pudding Monsters or the ice puzzles in The Legend of Zelda.  The main focus of the game is to navigate a water drop on glass to collect pearls.  Each level also has a hidden gem to collect with increases the replay value.  There are over 100 levels to be unlocked, which should keep even the hardcore puzzle enthusiasts busy for a while.  There is also a goal of how many turns in which it wants players to finish the stage in.  This is a great technique to keep you replaying the levels to try to 1up your friends or family.

The presentation of the game has you in a room or basement and the levels are split amongst the 1960s and 1970s.  It doesn’t add any story value but is a cool concept and setup for the level structure.  Within the levels the difficulty has a nice gentle spike that eases gamers into the new puzzles without feeling overwhelming.  The slide physics work great using the touch screen.  Once the droplet has been sent in motion, it will only stop when running into a wall or hazard.  I like the fact that you can fling the droplet off the screen and it wraps around the other side.  It gives the game a unique challenge from similar games.

Graphically the game looks good but doesn’t do to much.  It has a nice look for a mature audience, not using many bright colors or cartoon-like graphics.  The soundtrack has a great relaxing tone to it.  It is very soothing and fitting for the genre that it is for.

If you are looking for a puzzle game that will get you thinking and has enough to keep you coming back, I’d strongly suggest picking this title up.  It is definitely a game for puzzle enthusiasts and with over 100 levels packed in, is well worth the money to download this one from the eShop.
