Simulation games go way, way back to the days of Sim City, Harvest Moon, and more even before that.  A few years back in 2009 Zynga had gamers addicted to a little piece of software named Farmville that was published to Facebook.  Bip Media has brought the Wii U a farm simulation game in the title “My Farm“.

MF1

In My Farm, you play as a character who has become sick of the city life and decide to take refuge as a farm owner.  Owning your very own farm might not be as easy as you think though.  As you start out with very little money, you will have to raise ducks and hens in order to sell eggs and feathers to build up more funds in order to purchase higher costing animals and expand your farm.  There are 10 animals in total ranging from the foul mentioned earlier to pigs, goats and horses.  You can build upgrades to your farm as well that will let you have more animals and better scenery.

The game can be played by moving the sticks to move around your farm, with the left stick moving and the right stick zooming.  Most of the gameplay however is done on the touchpad.  You will slide the feed or medicine over top of the animals, rub the animals to clean them or even rub your farm to clean up some poop.  It’s nice to see a game where it feels like the second screen is a necessity even though it makes the tv display seem tacked on.  Keeping your animals happy and your farm clean is the main goal and there are also challenges that help you level up and get more money, animals and feed.

MF2

The graphics and sound are fitting for the game but isn’t anything better then you would have seen on the Gamecube.  It’s simplistic and too the point which is fine for the type of game that it is.  The sound effects and music go well with the game and the title music is even pretty catchy.

I would recommend My Farm for children between the ages of 7-14 and even some adults who like simplistic simulation games that don’t require a huge amount of multitasking.  It is a fun game for a while but may become tedious for gamers looking to do more then just feed and pet their animals. Overall though it should be more than enjoyable for the recommended age group.
