If you are a fan of LEGO games, then most likely you will love this game.  It has a lot of the same concepts of previous installments.  If you are a Lord of the Rings fan, then most likely you will enjoy seeing the movies that you love so much crunched into a mini version all into one game.  The game will start with the story of the “One ring to rule them all” and you will begin in the battle of trying to defeat Sauron and destroy the ring.  I will say that during that battle, there are hundreds of orcs running into battle all at once and there wasn’t a single glitch or slow down of game speed while playing, it is very impressive for a game of this caliber.

LOTR1

The graphics of the game are just like all other LEGO games, but the beauty of the levels looking very similar to that of the movies is awesome.  The game runs extremely smooth for having 8 characters to control at once and with all that goes on around the characters.  The voice acting was taken from the movies and put into the game, which was cool but at the same time kinda takes away from making their own spin to the story.  With that in mind, it also didn’t have as many funny parts to make cracks at the story like the usual LEGO games are known to do.  The humorous parts that they did try to incorporate into the game were pretty lame.  The music of the game is also taken from the films as well, which gives you that feeling of being in the LEGO version of the movies.

LOTR2

The story sticks to the movie except that it skips quite a bit in between levels.  Which probably isn’t too bad being that it is a very long story but at the same time I know there are things that I would have liked to see put in there.  This game play is just like the rest of the LEGO games made, you will go around and destroy things to earn studs and try to find all the collectibles and unlock all the characters in the game.  Each character has 8 slots of reserve to retrieve items to use or items to keep like shovels, matches, swords and etc.  TT seemed to do a great job of utilizing each character, like shorter characters like the hobbits and dwarfs can’t make it through the tall and thick snow so the bigger guys gotta pick them up and carry them past the snow pile.  In other LOTR games made before, i usually have used Aragorn or Legolas majority of the time but this time you have to use characters you would either never use or wanna use to get past certain points.  They did a good job of making sure to include the use of Gimli in the game as well.

LOTR3

As previously stated, the game stays true to its predecessors in having to collect studs, bricks, characters and other collectibles to finish the game 100%.  You can NOT finish the game 100% on your first play through either which makes it a pain to replay the game over again just to find things.  I have never really been a fan of playing through the game once, just to beat it and then play it over and over again til I find all the hidden items.  I know it somewhat gives it replay value but to me it is way too much.  They should make it a little less demanding to finish it completely because I tend to lose interest in it as I am doing the same thing over and over.

LOTR5

LEGO Lord of the Rings is a fun game like most LEGO games but is also great seeing such an iconic movie turned into LEGO’s.  I love the LEGO franchise and I think they did a great job on the game but did not seem to make it into its own version.  They didn’t do too good of a job on the humorous side like usual.  They stuck to the LEGO theme in the collecting aspect as well.  I believe the game is worth playing because it is a LEGO game and I also believe it’s definitely worth playing because it is a Lord of the Rings game.  Don’t expect anything different from the typical LEGO games except that it is an open world and the use of 8 characters at once.  It is a game worth playing or owning but it is not really that original to the norm of LEGO.
