With Nintendo Web Framework games in full swing with titles such as Blok Drop U, I’ve Got to Run, and GEOM, the quality and experience is growing as well.  Internal Invasion from developer Andy Ford and publisher Bear Box Media makes full use of HTML5 and the Construct2 engine to bring use a quirky little gravity-based puzzle action game.

Internal-Invasion01

The back story is pretty simple, you play as Ro-Bert a little robotic type character and you must dive further and further into someone’s infected body to clear them of a virus.  You do this by using cannons and power-up pills to complete levels and other gravity-based puzzles.

There are 50 total levels to unlock in total that are divided into groups of 10.  In each of the last levels there is a “Boss Fight” sort of by having to use the cannons to outrun a ridiculously huge virus.  The levels start out with just firing the cannons to reach the next location but then increase the difficulty accordingly by adding in enemies and gravity changers a la Gravity Badgers.

When you complete a level you will be rewarded in a 5 pill system, it’s similar to how they use the 3 star system in mobile games.  3 of the pills are earned by collecting the pills in the levels (which can also be used to move Ro-bert by dragging the screen in the direction you would like him to go post cannon fire).  Another pill can be earned by completing the level before the timer runs out, which is the hardest to earn in my opinion.  The final pill is earned by using below the amount of cannon fires that it shows in the upper left (similar to getting par on the golf course).

Internal-Invasion02

You control the Internal Invasion completely on the gamepad’s touch screen.  You pullback on the cannon and release to shoot Ro-Bert flying.  I would love to have seen a trajectory path added to the screen to get a better idea of how powerful and the roundabouts of where Ro-Bert was going to go.

Graphically, the game is really impressive for a game done in HTML5.  I would have had a hard time believing that this was a web based game if I wasn’t told.  It has a very cartoony feel, but the backgrounds have enough life to them that it does make it seem like you are in a living world. The soundtrack is pretty catchy throughout the levels and the mixing it up at the boss fights adds just the right touch.

The Recommendation

At under $5 I would recommend giving Internal Invasion a shot.  It is a fun gravity-based puzzle game and feels like some of the mobile giants that you may have played such as Angry Birds.  It works well in off-screen mode and with 50 levels and the 5 pill scoring system, there is enough content here to keep you busy for a while.
