The streets of New York are in ruin, aliens are invading, and you are perceived as the enemy.  All of this chaos is packed into the long awaited sequel to Crysis, Crysis 2.  With the all-new NANO suit 2.0, get ready for a non-stop action-packed enthralled experience from start to finish.  Crysis 2 takes console shooters to a whole new level with mind blowing visuals with the extreme detail and excellent effects.

Crytek has brought the same amount of polish if not more in the single player campaign then the first installment with a huge amount of tactical options.  This is one of the reasons this game separates itself from other shooters.  The main protagonist is named Alcatraz but, is mistaken as “Prophet” who you played as in Crysis and Crysis: Warhead.  The main story takes place in in 2023, three years after the original, where the city of New York is evacuated due to an alien invasion along with an outbreak that causes cellular breakdown.  Through the campaign, an orginization known as CELL is taking initiative to obtain the NANO suit from you for the company CryNet Systems.  Giving the NANO 2.0 suit up though, is something you are unwilling to do, so you fight off hordes of the invading aliens known as Ceph.   The controls in Crysis 2 have been simplified for a more console friendly experience.  One of these changes that Crytek brings into Crysis 2 is the fact that there is no more selection wheel for your suit’s mods.  Crysis 2 feels like an open world when you are outside with many ways to flank or tactically eliminate your enemies.

The multiplayer is quite new but still has a familiar feel.  It plays similar to Call of Duty where you get perks and custom weapon kits.  Although you can’t customize the look of your suit, you can customize your suit’s mods, which compliment your playing style.  There is also a leveling up system via experience points, again like Call of Duty.  With 50 ranks and over 100 different unlocks, players have more than ample to do once they complete the 10-15 hour single-player campaign.  Online play can have up to 6 on 6 players competing in the six multiplayer modes available.  There are some modes that may seem very similar to most shooters, such as Capture the Relay (Capture the Flag) and Crash Site (King of the Hill).

Crysis 2 has shown what our home consoles are fully capable of with its gorgeous visuals and attention to environmental detail, such as trees swaying or embers floating from fires.  I had my doubts of a console release, but I was proven wrong with their successful console version.  After you finish the campaign, there are hours more fun to be had if you enjoy online competition. Overall, Crytek has given us a AAA game and left all gamers with a great experience with everything it had offered, whether it be campaign or online modes.
