Color Zen Kids is definitely created for kids, just like the name implies.  The game is not really a game at all but more like a bunch of puzzles that to a gamer are pretty easy but to children could be a great way to learn.  CZR is basically a puzzle based on colors and shapes.  The shapes and colors create really cool animals which will also help young kids learn what they can create with just shapes and give their brain a workout while trying to get past each level.  I would say this game is probably made for kids around the ages 4 to 10 years old.  I was bored with it pretty quick but I am also a lot older than 4 to 10 years old haha.

The music was puzzle like sounding, making you realize you are trying to solve something.  The graphics are nothing spectacular and being the type of game it is, it isn’t really a necessary thing.  The game can be played on the tv or the gamepad.  If I was going to allow my child to play this, I would have him play it through the gamepad for a few reasons.  First reason is being that to be honest I don’t want to watch him play this game because to me it is boring.  The second being that none of the music and sound effects play through the tv which takes away from the puzzler.

There are plenty of levels for your child to get his learn on.  There are a total of 6 chapters with a total of 20 levels in each chapter or you could say 120 total puzzles to learn from.  There are absolutely no buttons or directions to have to press, the child will only use the stylus to solve each level.  There is no real story or reason for the game other than learning so don’t look for more than that.  The game is about matching all sorts of shapes of certain colors to other shapes of matching colors.  Matching shapes does not matter, it is the color of the shape that matters.  To pass each level the final color that you must match has to match that of the border that surrounds the puzzle.

The Recommendation

The name of the game says it all, Color Zen Kids, it is a kids game.  I will base what I score this on whether or not I believe this to be helpful to children.  I think the shapes, colors and the creations made by the shapes and colors are a great way to learn but could have done more to push the learning more all around.  They don’t really learn what the shape is rather just sling one shape into another of a matching color to eliminate pieces.  I think it was a great concept that comes up a little short on actually teaching something.  I think its worth getting to help keep your kids occupied if you are busy around the house but unless, as a parent, you are sitting there with your child they really won’t learn too much from it.  In all honesty, I would say I would be 50/50 on whether you should purchase this or not.
