Chariot is a game that has charm and potential to be a good game.  The story of Chariot is that of a weird predicament that the main character and her fiancee are dealing with.  The two proceed taking her father’s chariot to his final resting place but the ghost of her father rises up and basically doesn’t believe that the quality of the grounds are not good enough for him.  He demands that his daughter pull the chariot to a more appropriate ground to his liking while collecting riches on the journey.  The hilarity of the story makes the game play have an overall playful tone to it.

The game is basically you pulling a chariot around the underground caverns to find the desired location.  You will pull it around with a rope that can be held or let go of but don’t let the chariot get too far out of sight or you will have to restart from the last save point.  I know its kind of a known thing about restarting at the last save point but the problem with this is that the levels are really long and get tedious after awhile and you don’t really want to go and redo everything.  Not only will you pull the chariot everywhere, you will also have to climb with it and pull it up with you and you have to be a little slick with it too because if you get to high up and fall, which the chariot does pull you down, then you will have to enjoy climbing all the way back up.  Also, if the chariot falls or hits a wall to hard, it will send off a sound that will make looters come and steal your findings.  These looters look like little bats or more like gremlins with bat wings.  As you get close to jewels and other treasure finds, you can not collect them, only the chariot can.  There are also some floors that you can walk on but the chariot can’t roll on and also vice versa.

The voice acting in it is okay but what makes it work is the humorous comments that are made.  The music reminds me of something you would hear while lurking into dark caverns.  The graphics are pretty and clean but aren’t anything to go overly crazy about.  The trees and grass light up beautifully and the other parts are great but outside of that, it looks just like a next gen systems graphics should look.  I have not had any slow downs or glitches yet which is great.  The game seems to run really smooth all around without any negative things to say which is definitely a bonus for players.

The best part of this game is playing co-op, the worst part of this game is that it is not online co-op and that the levels are way too long and boring for one player after a short while.  The co-op play makes it a lot more bearable and there are even specific areas that have signs showing it is necessary for a dynamic duo or a not so dynamic duo.  I think this day in age of gaming though they should have made the co-op an online capability as I truly believe most games should be.  Also, the puzzles get a lot more challenging and exciting in co-op mode.

The Recommendation

Chariot is a pretty good game for the most part with just a little too much longevity on the levels for single player.  The co-op is definitely worth the play, as long as you can find someone to want to sit beside you and not online being that it is not available.  The graphics are pretty and the sound is good and all together is an attractive indie game all around.  I would say it’s a decent buy but if you have a second person to play with a lot then this game is worth getting.
