Free-To-Play Friday: Hearthstone

Free to play, this can be dangerous ground and it’s hard to know if you’re really getting a good deal or something that is going to pay-wall you behind so you’re unable to actually complete or win the game without spending money.

There are very few games that do the free-to-play model correctly and above all of them in my opinion  stands one that is probably the best. Hearthstone is a free to play game from Blizzard/Activision the creators of World of Warcraft in which the game takes its lore from, but its not needed to know any of this to enjoy the game. Hearthstone is a trading card game where players go up against one another competing to see who has the best decks that can be handmade of just use a premade one, but there is much more than just that.

The majority of the game can be  played without ever spending a single dime, free cards are given to you upon completing certain quests or by leveling up also there is the option to actually buy new packs with the in game currency that is earned by winning against player or completing  certain daily quests. If played  correctly 5 new cars can be added every other day just by playing the game as they would normally.

Advanced players can venture into the arena where everything is kicked up a notch, upon entering into the arena players create a makeshift Deck is created using cars that they are chosen by random even though  it costs 250 gold which can be earned just by playing the game at a normal pace, for $2.99 players can spend real money to enter.

In arena the goal is to win as many rounds as possible before losing 3 rounds, the more time the player wins the better the reward is by the end of it. Gold cards and more can be won and if players are able to there can be more gold earned then was used to enter. Players will never ever have to spend a single dime to get new cards while playing the base game.

That’s the most ingenious part of Hearthstone is how much of the game can be earned, even if i want to spend money to play the game, Hearthstone won’t let me.

If players feel the need to spend some cash one of the three options is to buy the campaigns, as of now there two campaigns that have been released both are $24.99 these introduce new cards cards missions story based quests a host of new features that don’t ever have to be access to enjoy the actual game but add more content to it if someone is looking for a deeper reason to play besides building decks and playing against other players.

This is the only part that actually pay-walled and has to have real money spent in it to play. The rest of the game players should be able to continue with no money that has to be spent to get cards, there’s no money that has to be spent to play the arena. Yet if you want to access all the content that’s possible then there is a little bit of cash that needs to be delivered. Playing other players, building decks, creating an unstoppable wrecking force deck is a hundred percent free. This is one of the few times when the phrase free to play actually works there is no pay-wall that stops the enjoyment of the game. Hearthstone is an addictive Trading Card Game with a overall ingenious pay scale to allow players to fully enjoy the game without ever making them feel like they’re missing out on something if they don’t put forth the extra money.
